College Outfielders Make The Greatest Baseball Catch In History

The great thing about sports, particularly baseball, is that something amazing can occur at any moment

That’s exactly what happened during a game between Oakland University and Northern Kentucky when a pair of Oakland Golden Grizzlies outfielders made potentially the greatest catch of all time.

Oakland University (Rochester, Michigan) has been getting some spotlight lately. During the NCAA March Madness tournament, their men’s basketball program pulled a mammoth first-round upset over the Kentucky Wildcats.

Fast forward to late April, and now it’s the Golden Grizzlies baseball team who’s getting a little shine time, courtesy of an absolutely incredible play they managed to do Saturday. And the kicker: They did this against another university from the Bluegrass State.

In the fourth inning of the Horizon League contest, Northern Kentucky outfielder Colton Kucera popped a ball towards left-center field and it looked like the senior was about to grab himself a home run. However, Oakland left fielder John Lauinger and center fielder Reggie Bussey had a different idea, one filled with pure insanity.

When the ball looked like it was going over the wall, Lauinger tracked it down enough where he could get a glove on it to prevent it from being an HR, but with that being said, he was unable to make the catch — insert Bussey.

The catch even got the attention of the Big Leagues. During a Detroit Tigers broadcast, Bally Sports Detroit’s reporter aired the clip, calling it the greatest catch he’s ever seen.

Yahoo Sports noted that “Bussey isn’t just getting it done with his glove. The sophomore is batting .313 with an .855 OPS and 26 stolen bases this season. Lauinger is also hitting well with a .301 average and .876 OPS for the Golden Grizzlies.

Oakland won the game, 7–3, and took two of three games from Northern Kentucky in their weekend series. At 11–7, the Golden Grizzlies (21–18 overall) are now a game behind the Norse (24–15) in the Horizon League standings.”

Oakland University is located in Rochester, Michigan.
