CCTV footage from The Big Cat Sanctuary in the United Kingdom has captured a softer side of one of the world’s most elusive big cats, showing snow leopards Laila and Yarko cuddling, playing, and sleeping together in a hay-filled enclosure.

The footage, shared on Twitter by the account @HumanityChad, shows the bonded pair gently wrestling, curling up together, and napping in the kind of confined space more often associated with a house cat squeezing into a cardboard box than with a rare high-mountain predator.

“CCTV caught these snow leopards being absolute cuddle bugs,” the post reads.

By Friday afternoon, the clip had drawn more than 1 million views, more than 42,000 likes, and thousands of reposts and comments from users charmed by the animals’ unusually affectionate behavior.

Snow leopards, formally known as Panthera uncia, are typically solitary animals. In the wild, they inhabit remote mountain ranges across Central Asia, where their elusive nature and harsh habitat make close observation difficult. The species is listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with wild populations commonly estimated in the low thousands.

That makes the footage of Laila and Yarko especially striking. At The Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden, Kent, the pair has become known for a close bond that sanctuary staff have described in affectionate terms. Previous videos have shown the two cuddling, spooning, and appearing to “kiss” during quiet nighttime moments in their enclosure.

The sanctuary has also highlighted the pair’s role in conservation breeding efforts. Laila and Yarko have produced multiple litters and have since become grandparents, making them part of the broader effort to protect a species facing pressure from habitat loss, conflict with humans, and illegal wildlife trade.

Their relationship has become one of the sanctuary’s most recognizable stories. Staff have described them as “the perfect snow leopard couple,” and Laila’s calm temperament has allowed veterinarians to perform unusually close monitoring during pregnancies, including ultrasound procedures.

Online reaction to the latest footage mixed amusement with affection. Some commenters noted how closely the leopards’ behavior resembled that of domestic cats.

“All cats LOVE boxes,” one user wrote.

Another joked: “Never thought I would be jealous of snow leopards.”

The video’s popularity comes as wildlife sanctuaries and conservation groups continue to use social media to connect the public with threatened species. For animals such as snow leopards, which are rarely seen in the wild, moments like these can turn an abstract conservation concern into something immediate and memorable.

Laila and Yarko’s viral cuddle session is not just a charming glimpse of animal behavior. It is also a reminder that even among predators known for solitude, stealth, and survival in some of the world’s harshest terrain, tenderness has its place.
